Was it just me, or did anyone else thing that Unobtainium was a fucking stupid name for a mineral, from the get go?

Another thing I didn't like, concerning the stuff, was that absolutely no effort was put into explaining exactly why humans were wanting this shit.

I just had one, though rather minor. The thought occurred to me that True Silver is a dumb thing, and they (whoever they are) should have done something different. Like True... STEEL.

Yes, True Steel. It's better than regular, uncapitalized steel for at least two reasons: 1) it makes for tougher, shinier equipment and 2) it's a magical metal that naturally occurring! None of this pansy alloying and refining shit. Oh no. it's ready for working as soon as you dig it up.

But it's gotta be rare, or else you'll just dry up the steel market.

Wizards of the Coast should totally hire me.

I've heard that people who drink themselves into excess over imagined failures are more interesting to be with, than the ones who resist the temptation over real failures.

At least initially.

A nifty thing... Hopefully someone will respond to it.

Dear Santa

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In March I caught a purse-snatcher who stole tiassa's purse (30 points). Last Friday I gave moonandserpent a Dutch Oven (-10 points). In August I gave change to a homeless guy (19 points). Last month I pulled matt_kaiser's hair (-5 points). In September I turned kajafoglio in for tearing the tag off a mattress (3 points).

Overall, I've been nice (37 points). For Christmas I deserve a Wii!

Mmmm... A Wii.

Given that I lent my PS2 to shallowesque over a month ago, lately I've been getting urges to play various PS2 games, and then realizing that I can't. Also, setting up my computer to play them would take too much time to figure out, and then I would need to spend money on a controller, so no go there.

Just you wait, shallowesque... I'll be along...

Anyway, all this wanting and not having led me to again wonder when Final Fantasy 12 is slated to come out (I keep forgetting, you see). After a bit of searching, I found that it's october 31, and that's all fine and dandy, but that's not all I found. I found a small synopsis of the story behind it on FFXII.net of all places. Now, while most people have likely already discerned the plot by other means, I never got sucked into the hype (aside from a moment of weakness, at which point I slapped down a full payment for the Shiney Box edition pre-order, as soon as I heard it existed), so I also never bothered to find out the story. But, since I was already at the site, I figured "Why not?". Here is what I found:

"Final Fantasy 12 is set in the world of Ivalice, for years the two kingdoms of Arcadia and Rosaria have been fighting against each other in a bitter struggle. Located in a strategically important corridor between the two powers is the small kingdom of Dalmaska."

Pretty good so far, about what I've come to expect from Squeenix. Moving on.

"Arcadia's invasion of the kingdom prompts its princess Ashe to join forces with the resistance. Vaan is an optimistic and bright young man yielding from the ancient kingdom of Dalmaska, which has fallen under the control of the Arcardian Empire. Due to the unsatisfactory conditions there, he has cut his ties with relatives there, seeking his very own personal freedom.

Again, pretty good. Though I can't help but notice something familiar in this. Oh well, I'm sure it's nothing.

"As an adventurer, he dreams of being able to command an airship someday. Ashe is the sole daughter of the king of Dalmaska and hence the next inline to the throne. Following the invasion of her country, she becomes the leader of the resistance against the Empire. During a wild pursuit, she loses one companion after the other. Despite her desperate situation, she still hasn't lost the pride of a princess. In this situation she meets Vaan, and before long loses her heart to him. Thus their joint adventure begins."

But soon, Luk- I mean, Vaan, finds out that he is really Ashe's long lost brother! Oh the agony of the heart!

Okay, I'm sure it'll be just fine, I just wanted a chance to make fun of it before I spend weeks playing it to death. Also, I'm sure I'm not the first person to make the Star Wars connection, though I'm sure I'm one of the few who didn't decide to make a huge thing about it (I call this only semi-big). In any case, I'm looking forward to it, but now I can't help but to snicker, when I think about it. ^_^

Free is *almost* always the best kind of beer. Unless it's CamelSpit Ale, from Asfukistan.

I just woke up, went into the computer room and booted the thing up. As I was waiting, I barely heard a quick knocking on my door. Before I could convince myself that I was hearing things, I decided to take a chance, put on some pants, and answer the door.

Guy starts out by saying "Hi there. Don't worry, we" and he motions to his genuinely lovely assistant "aren't here to sell you anything." To which, I cocked my eyebrow, waiting for the other shoe.

"In fact, we'd like to give you a free six-pack. Would ya like that?"

"Uhh... Sure?"

Turns out they were from the J. R. Brickman Brick brewery, just down the street (literally, a 5 minute walk). They handed me a (decidedly warm) box containing 6 bottles of quality beer (two of each of their signature types), asked me three questions about my beer drinking habits, and also gave me a couple of flyers, and a voucher for a combined free tour of the facility and $5 off my next Brick beer purchase.

All in all, I may end up going with Brick beer for a while. It helps that I already like their Honey Red. See, matt_kaiser and I had sampled it at a bar near the Toroto Convention Centre, at last year's Anime North. We were amused to relise that their "Palimino Honey Red" house beer was actually rebranded from the stuff brewed and shipped from the place just 5 minutes from my house.

As it happens, I'm just about to head in for work, but it's good to know that I'll have some good, cool beer waiting for me in the fridge, at the end of my eight hour shift. ^___^

Speaking of which, I should get going, it's like a half hour off, now. ^^;

Geeknerd, nerd-nerd dorkity nerd.

Just tonight, I went to East Side Mario's with my family, to meet my brother-in-law Cesar's cousin from Mexico, Gabriel. He's a pretty cool guy, with a decent grasp on the english language, but sometimes during the meal, he, Cesar and my sister would go briefly into full spanish mode (to give him a better explanation of something that was just said, or what have you). Now, this kind of thing used to bug me, until I had a realisation, an epiphany, if you will: it's really no different than if my friends and I are sitting around with non-nerd/geek/dorks and we go off on a geeky li'l tangent, leaving the others looking somewhat confused or trying to chuckle in the right places. What these people, as well and anyone else nearby who doesn't have extensive comic book knowledge (or what have you), are hearing is "Nerdnerd nerdity nerd-nerd, nerdnerdnerd. Geeknerd, geekgeeknerdgeek, DORK! HAHAHAHAHAHAAAA".

So yeah, stuff like that doesn't bother me anymore. ^_^
